Triathlon Training

Our Triathlon Training program is booming! This very popular class is starting it’s second session (openings still available) and we have decided to add two more sessions which will be: Session III 2/24 - 3/30, and Session IV 4/6  - 5/11. The workouts are Friday nights 5:30-7:30pm and have two other optional workouts each week.  Price: members $36.50, non members $75.

Swim Policy



Placement in youth swim classes are based on your child’s current swimming ability.  At the start of each session, our instructors will evaluate your child’s skills to ensure that they match the skills required for each level.  Based on that evaluation, we may work with you to move your child to a more appropriate class.  Swim report cards will be given out at the end of each session.   Contact aquatics with any questions or concerns @ 338-3810 ext 114 or email aquatics@ymcaulster.org

Youth and Adult Swim Classes

Parent-Child Programs

Skip’s
Ages 6-24 months with parent

This is a parent and child swimming enrichment program. Through songs and nursery rhymes children are encouraged to be comfortable in the pool and begin learning swimming strokes.

Pike with Parent
Ages 2-4 years with parent

Parents accompany their children in the water. Children continue to learn skills with parents and prepare to move on to independent lessons.  This class is designed for the older toddler, or a child who is hesitant to enter the water.

Children’s and Adult Swim Lessons

 

Preschool Swim Lessons
Ages 3-5 years

This program will focus primarily on swimming skills and safety.  Preschoolers will concentrate on being comfortable in the water and improving their swimming abilities. They will learn and refine their strokes and develop personal safety skills.

  1. Monday: 9:45 am – 10:15 am, 4:00pm - 4:30pm, 4:45pm - 5:15pm
  2. Tuesday: 4:45 pm – 5:15 pm
  3. Wednesday: 4:00pm - 4:30pm
  4. Thursday: 4:45 pm – 5:15 pm
  5. Saturday: 9:15 am – 9:45 am, 10:00am - 10:30am, 11:00 am – 11:30 am

Youth Swim Lessons
Ages 6-12 years

This is a progressive skill-building program where children work on further refining their swimming skills and knowledge of pool safety.
Polliwog – Children learn beginning paddle skills, water safety, front and back floats, and reaching assists.  Instructional flotation device may be used.
Guppy – Children begin working on front crawl, sidestroke, backstroke, and rhythmic breathing.
Minnow – Your child will work on continued development of front and back crawl, breaststroke, increasing endurance, learning emergency procedures and personal safety.
Fish/Flying Fish/Shark – Your child will continue refining all five main strokes, including inverted breaststroke and elementary backstroke. This class focuses on improving efficiency and endurance.  In addition, stroke work will include individual medley, front and back flip turns, and streamlining.

Specialized Swim Lessons
Special Needs - This class is provided for children you have extra needs, or need more specialized instruction. The class enrollment is kept low to insure that each child gets this specialized attention.
*Note- A parent, guardian, or counselor is required to accompany the child in the water during the lesson.

Teen/Adult Swim Lessons
Ages 13+

Beginner – You will learn basic swimming skills such as the crawl stroke, breathing techniques, and floating to serve as a foundation for further swim development.
Intermediate/Advanced – Adults with base swimming skills will work on advancing their swim abilities, while increasing swimming endurance.

Advanced Swimming and Safety Programs

Swim Clinic
Ages 6-18

This is a competitive swim group that practices regularly here at the Y of Kingston and Ulster County.  Swimmers work on the endurance and efficiency of the four competitive strokes.  An up to date Y membership and the ability to swim the four competitive strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Front Crawl) are required.

  1. Tuesday & Thursday: 5:30pm - 6:30pm

Members Only: $80.00 per 8 weeks *Sign up is required for each session*

 

Lifeguard Certification Course
Ages 15+*

Participants will learn lifesaving, standard first aid, blood born pathogens protocol, and CPR/AED. Attendance of every class is required for the completionNO EXCEPTIONS> Upon completion they will receive their certifications from the American Red Cross.

1. Wednesday: class starts 1/18/2012 - 3/28/2012 6-9:30pm

2. Friday: class starts 1/20/2012 - 3/30/2012 6-9:30pm

*Must be 15 by the completion of this course
Must be able to swim 550 yards(11 laps) in a combination of front crawl and breast-stroke.

Fee: $300 for members & non-members

Aqua Jogging
The Y’s Aqua Jogging program is an exercise program performed in the deep end of the pool choreographed to music.  During class the Y provides float belts for each participant.

  1. Monday: 10:30 am – 11:15 am
  2. Wednesday: 10:30 am – 11:15 am
  3. Friday: 10:30 am – 11:15 am

Aqua-Cise
Aqua-Cise is a low-impact water supported exercise class that uses water resistance to increase muscle tone and flexibility. It is relaxing, and soothing to the body and mind.  

  1. Friday: 9:30 am - 10:15 am

Water Zumba
Water Zumba is a workout taught by a certified Zumba instructor and designed for those who are serious about increasing and maintaining their personal fitness, burning calories, and toning their muscles.  It is energizing, powerful, uplifting, and fun.

  1. Monday: 7:00 pm – 7:45 pm

Aquarobics
Aquarobics is an aerobics program with routines that are choreographed to music.  It is performed in the shallow end of the pool and is for both swimmers and non-swimmers. It is a total physical fitness program creating a sense of well being and improving cardio-vascular fitness.

Aquoga

AQUOGA combines Aquatic Aerobics, Yoga, Isometric Conditioning, Strength Training, Yogic Breathing and Meditation for a unique workout suitable for students of all fitness levels. You will leave this class feeling grounded, focused and rejuvenated.
