SWIM REGISTRATION

Starts 2/15/10 for Winter II Session

(Winter II Session starts 3/01/10 thru 4/24/10)

SWIM LESSONS
Placement in youth swim classes are based on your child’s current swimming ability.  At the start of each session, our instructors will evaluate your child’s skills to ensure that they match the skills required for each level.  Based on that evaluation, we may work with you to move your child to a more appropriate class.  Swim report cards will be given out at the end of each session.   Please contact our swim coordinator, Mike Maphis, with any questions or concerns @ 338-3810 ext 114.

****This year we are registering children based on swim ability, when registering please select the most appropriate level of your child.   Swim instructors will make any necessary changes. 

PolliwogChildren swim with use of a flotation device.
Guppy: Children swim with partial use of a flotation device.
Minnow: Children build endurance and stroke refinement.
Fish: Swimmers learn Butterfly and increase endurance to 4 lengths of the pool with each stroke.
Shark: Swimmers learn stroke technique, starts, advanced waterpersonship.
PorpoiseFish level and above learn aquatic leadership.



YOUTH SWIM LESSONS FOR 6 – 13 YEARS: (8 week session)

7 level youth progressive swim program – polliwog, guppy, minnow, fish, flying fish, shark, and porpoise. Classes are 45 min. long/15 min rec. swim after class.

FEE:  Fee: $40.00 members $80.00 non members.

Y SKIPPERS PROGRESSIVE PRESCHOOL SWIM PROGRAM : AGE 3-5:

Child must be 3 at start of the session. We ask that the parents not go into the pool during this class

Y SKIPPERS PARENT-TOT WATER ADJUSTMENT PROGRAM: 6 mo-35 mo:

Children must be 6 months old at start of session and MUST wear swim diaper if not potty trained.   In this program the adult participates with the child in having fun in the water and introducing swimming to children.
Classes are 30 minutes long followed by 15 minutes of recreational swim.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING CERTIFICATION COURSES: (Ten weeks)
American Red Cross certification. Kevin O’Connell-Instructor.
Course instruction includes CPR Pro, First Aid, AED, Blood born Pathogens, Pool & Waterfront certification.

YOUTH SWIM CLINIC
Whether your goal is to compete on a national level or you are just seeking an opportunity to meet new friends, the YMCA Youth Clinic is the place for you! We believe that a child’s involvement in swimming offers an exciting opportunity in his or her life. As a member of the swim clinic, a swimmer will have the opportunity to develop a work ethic and healthy sense of competition. Swimmers must be able to complete a 300 yard front crawl swim and have some knowledge of all 4 competitive strokes. During the clinic, swimmers will be given instruction on the competitive strokes, starts, turns, IM’s, sprints and distance work.
PLEASE NOTE STUDENTS MUST HAVE COMPLETED FISH LEVEL

WATER FITNESS CLASSES
AQUAROBICS

Y-Aquarobics is a water dance aerobics program with routines choreographed to music and performed in the shallow end of the pool for both the swimmer and non swimmer. It is a total fitness program providing for a sense of well being and aiding in the development of cardio vascular fitness. Those individuals with physical limitations are not singled out of participation. Water’s buoyant qualities act as a therapeutic aid, permitting ease of movement.

AQUACISE

Aqua-cise is a low impact water supported exercise class that uses water resistance to increase muscle tone and flexibility. Borrowing from modalities such as Pilates, aerobics and water jogging, emphasis is on building core strength and awareness. Aqua-cise provides an overall workout that, while subtle, uses every muscle and joint in the body simultaneously to improve balance and coordination.

AQUA JOGGING

The Aqua jogging program is a deep water aquatic exercise program performed in the deep end of the pool choreographed to music. It combines different jogging methods and uses weights for part of the program. The Y provides weight belts for individual’s participation.
